Complaining

In today’s society people don’t have the courage to stand up to make their circumstances better. However, I don’t believe the answers to the problems would be remedied by complaining. Americans in this generation do not like to complain because they do not want to create a scene or do not want to be obtrusive. By being apathetic to the problem they allow the issue to slide by as long as it does not offend anyone in the process. They are so concerned with what others think and say that they will mind their own business and remain indifferent. If there is a problem people should not be afraid to bring it to attention and resolve it.

On the other hand people should not complain all the time either; the issue however should be brought to their attention in a tactful manner. People tend to get caught up in the thought that they are “complaining” but what if people simply express their concern with whatever their issue at that time may be. If people come across in a respectful and polite manner, the person on the receiving end of the “complaint” may not see it as that, but rather feedback they need to better their services. Because American’s struggle with how to address their concerns they have become passive since they have been trained by the norms of society not to make a scene. Americans individually need to make a stand to go against the predominant thought that they should not complain, but instead bring up their problems in way that is not rude or disparaging either.

Actions

Our actions and the decisions we make will shape us into who we become and how other people see us. At the same time though we are the potters of our own destiny and we can mold our lives into whatever we choose by the choices we make. If we make the wrong choices we are tainted by those choices for the rest of our lives, but in contrast, by choosing the high road life yields many greater possibilities.

Whenever we think about who we will become, we also have to think about what we have done. If we just walk through this world thinking that what we do doesn’t affect us, we are wrong and will eventually pay for our ignorance. Fortunately there is hope for those of us who realize this universal fact and act according to our beliefs to build an image of ourselves that we can be proud of. Every choice affects you, making you who you are. It also seems that how we act and behave will be judged, not just by us, but by our peers and the people around us. I believe this to be accurate because when I was in high school I tried my very best and strived to accomplish the tasks given to me so that I could obtain a good grade point average and then in light of that get into college. The choice I made to excel in my academic and extracurricular studies were judged by society who then verified my future and who I am now, which is a college student. I believe that our actions don’t only determine who we are now but echo through eternity influencing future generations to come after our deaths.

A little insite into Othello

The character of Othello in Shakespeare's play "Othello", gives real insight into the very real human condition of jealousy and how far it can take a person down the wrong path. Othello at first was a good man who loved his wife and his country. Although it seemed he had the perfect life he had many flaws which he was very aware of and which he tried to cover up by surrounding himself with people who were strong in his weak areas which in turn would compliment him, such as Michael Cassio his lieutenant. Though he looked to minimize his weaknesses and maximize his strengths he was still open to many of the vices that challenge mankind, jealousy in particular.
The antagonist Iago, Othello's ancient, used his wit and charisma to turn Othello's "green eyed monster" against Othello to advance his own personal gains. Though Othello was a general, a man who does not brashly rush into action without thinking it over, he was also ignorant of the opposite sex and their behavior which Iago used to his advantage. Othello let his emotions lead him instead his head causing him to descend into a spiraling web of bad choices and misunderstood circumstances. His weakness of not trusting his wife, trusting Iago, and letting jealousy take hold of him and control him was his tragic flaw which directly resulted in his unfortunate fate at the end of the play.

Trying to get a job

When applying for a job there are certain criteria to be expected from the person wanting employment as well as the employer who is doing the hiring. If you are the person in search of a job it is proper to show up well dressed, well mannered, prepared to answer any of the questions required of you, and have questions you might want to ask the employer. Like wise the employer should be ready to and able to fully explain the requirements of the job, how much they are willing to pay the employee, how many hours they will be expecting to work, etc.
Although this would be the most appropriate why to do business we all know that sometimes things do not go as planned no matter how well mannered or ready you are. For instance I recently applied for a job as a life guard at a pool where I had worked the previous year. The man doing the hiring was new but I had worked with him for a month before I had to leave for the summer and before I left he offered me the job next year when I came back. I was very pleased with this idea but when I came back the following year he treated me as a stranger. I persisted to ask him for the job and he kept making excuses and putting me off yet I did not deter. I was determined to get the job. Finally after putting me off on three separate occasions he finally gave me the job. Although I did every thing right there are just some people who are uncooperative. There is nothing else to do with those people but to persist until they say they are not going to hire you, for you just might actually get through to them eventually.

Applying for College

Many students, especially high school seniors, do not realize how important it is to get their applications for college in to the schools of their choice. They think they can just turn their applications in at the last second and get in right away like all the other people who did it two months before them. This though is a substantial flaw in their thinking. Even if they get their applications in on the date it is due they do not realize the length of time it is going to take to process their application as well as the time it takes for the school to respond back to them. This holds even more truth for a bigger or more prestigious college. If the student thinks they are just going to apply and hear back from their college within a week or so they are going to be very disappointed. Especially if they are planning on making arrangements to live on campus and need to sign up for specific classes. The student needs to take into account that they might not get into the school of their choice as well as time needed to make arrangements for if they do get into their school.
It would extremely behoove the student to apply for early application so that they have the time to make important decisions about what school they would like to go to (if they applied to multiple school), about their living situation once they are at college, and the classes they need to sign up for. These are all most serious decisions that students need to think of when applying for college because it is the rest of their lives they are deciding about and it is not smart to take it lightly. For before the student knows it they are going to in college then on to the profession which will help support them for the rest of their lives.

Fat --- Americans

We all know that America has the highest obesity rates out of every nation. This is primarily due to the massive over eating problem that the United States has. It seems like every where people look there is a fast food restaurant or other type of restaurant right there at the tips of their fingers begging them to come and eat at their restaurant. Although this does a great deal to cause the obesity rate it is not the only thing. The massive amount of products that we regularly buy and are vigorously advertised on the television on packed with calories, sugar, and many more things we can not even pronounce. These processed foods are seriously lacking in the healthy nutrients and vitamins that are essential for a person to live.
This type of food is exactly why about 33 percent of Americans are obese. The solution, though simple, is very tough for the average American even if they are not obese. If Americans would incorporate more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in their diets then they would lead much healthier lives. They do not only need to do it for themselves but for their children as well. For the parents feed their children these unhealthy types of food which teaches them bad eating habits and causes future rates of problems caused by obesity to significantly increase. I know Americans love their greasy foods and sugary desserts but at some point they just need to step back and look at what is really good for them.

Do Americans take America for Granted?

America on average I believe has become more and more self centered. Americans are too in love with themselves and their precious possessions and personal lives that they have taken for granted what truly matters. Americans do not realize how good they have it in the land of the free. They see the news and the countless wars, oppression, hunger, and death but yet it does not faze them. They are too worried about what makes them happy and how things will benefit them. Most know American history and the struggles the colonists made to secure their freedoms and liberty from their oppressors but now that all the fighting is over and done with Americans take for granted the liberties they have and the freedoms that were bought with blood by their ancestors. They do not truly love their nation. Most Americans, except obviously for the military, do not know what it means to fight a die for something they believe in. They are not ready to put their lives on the line to protect the way of life and the things they hold dear. Americans need to stop living in this dream world of theirs and get off tier lazy butts and do something for their country. If they would simply do that then America would not be such a horrible place that other countries look down on and say are fat and self centered but are instead forth right and strive to do what is best for the common good. Finally then Americans would not take America for granted they would have a part in shaping it with their own hands.

Christianity and Today

Christianity in the United States of America is slowly but surely being blotted out by those who wish to deny him. First, Judges can not have the ten commandments sitting outside their court house, then there are those who wish to get rid of the "under God" in the pledge of allegiance, and finally more recently we have president Obama telling the Muslim nations that we are not a christian nation but merely a nation of moral and ethical citizens. I just do not get when Christ and being a christian has turned into a bad thing. Why can people make fun of Christianity all day long but when someone says something against the Muslim faith then it is a humongous ordeal?
I believe the liberals in this country have taken our nations oldest laws and have skewed them to their liking. If they keep going like this soon the whole country will be turned into a bunch of unethical and immoral people whose only wish is to please themselves; because where did the nations morals and ethics come from, they came from the Bible and the christian values that our fore-fathers held when they founded the United Sates. I fear for the future of this nation. I know there are a lot of hypocrites in the Christian world but that is what makes them human. God knows we are not perfect but if we simply stopped fighting against him and instead embrace him the United States would be a much better place.

Is working while in school beneficial?

Everyone knows that students, especially college students, have very little to no money, and to fix that problem many of them get jobs to support themselves so that they can have money to pay bills or simply go out on the town every once in a while. Although for some people, whose parents have money, do not face these sort of problems. They have the opportunity to focus on their studies and do pretty much whatever they want without having to worry about the financial aspect of things. I realize that many parents want their children to get the best education possible without having to worry about anything else but on the other hand I truly believe that working while being school is extremely beneficial to the student. It not only helps the student realize the value of money but of the hard work it takes to earn that money as well the responsibilities of having a job and all that goes with it.
I say this because when I went through school I had a job first in the summer but when my senior year came around I got a job after school, although it was only part time I learned a great deal about what it takes to pay for my own gas, car insurance, cell phone payments, etc; and without having worked I would not have learned what it means to budget or manage my with the many other activities I had on top of work and school. Even though I did not have to work, because I was already spoiled by my parents, I am very glad I had that experience so I am better prepared for life after school and away from the parents.

Procrastination in college

Procrastination is one of the many problems college students in particular deal with on a daily basis. They know that they have a research paper due next week that they had assigned two months prior, but do they do anything, I think not. They keep going on about their business doing whatever they want carefree of their responsibilities to their studies. They will put their work off to the very last second, then they scramble to get it done only doing a mediocre job at best. Why do they do this to themselves? Are they under the notion that procrastinating is benefiting them?
Well to be honest I do not think that there is any discernible reason why people procrastinate except that they are simply lazy bums who want to do the least work possible. I would know because I am the worst procrastinator ever! For example I had to have thirty blogs written by April 29 and I knew all year that this was going to be due but instead of doing two blogs a day and getting it done with, I put it off and now I have to write fifteen blogs in one week. I have no excuse for putting it off except that I did not want to do them. I now wish I would have done the work gradually instead of putting it all off and cramming it into a week.
This example shows the brilliant decision making that most students make in college. Scholars wonder why most percentage of freshman fail their first year in college, well there is the answer; because students are lazy and they procrastinate to the very last second causing them to fail. If they would simply do their work I would easily surmise that more students would graduate. The lesson here of course is, do not procrastinate!

Should all college courses be related to your future occupation?

As a college student with the goal of one day becoming a doctor, I find myself strategically selecting the courses I will need for this future career. However, after reviewing many schools' course requirements for this field of study, I begin to wonder why we must take all of the classes they require. The countless Literature, History, and Math classes we must take tend to be somewhat irrelevant.
Many students go in to school knowing exactly what they want to do with the rest of their life, yet they must go through four years of college, studying completely irrelevant subjects, that more than likely will never be used again. We should not be required to spend countless hours studying, and even years of schooling, on top of all the money for tuition, to take classes unrelated to what our major focus is. Rather, we should spend more time focusing on what we plan to have a career in.
I have argued this with many adults, who tell me that colleges require you to take these core classes so we will have a basic knowledge of these subjects. But I'd like to argue that we gain the basics in high school classes. Why repeat this at such a high cost to the wallet? My senior year in high school was a total waste of time because I have basically gone over the exact same thing my first year in college. Instead of wasting my time retaking courses I have already taken, I should be devoting my time learning new material.
If colleges adopted this new standard then the chances are more people would want to attend college and get a better education instead of skipping out on it and starting a career right out of high school. This would promote a more knowledgeable society who are not blanketed by ignorance.

Summer Vacation? Should it be removed?

Summer has always been a time that has brought great joy to all the kids and teachers in America. It is a time to finally stop worrying about all the grueling school work and just relax by the pool and take in the next couple months of freedom. Although I love summer as much as the next guy, does it really benefit society to take all that time off of school?
With the summer vacation students have a couple months to forget everything they had previously learned in the last 8 or so months in school. Then when they get back to school they have to spend at least a good month to catch back up so they can remember everything that they had forgot while vacationing in the summer. We all know that the more people use the knowledge they have the less likely they will forget about it in the future; so why not cut summer vacation entirely and just have school year around? It would not of course be twelve straight months of school. There would would weeks off intermittently where kids can relax, but not the a huge amount of time like in the summer. This way kids can have their time off but not have to waste time making up what they forgot in the summer; and the teachers will be able to fit in more material.
Although this seems all nice and dandy would it really work? I believe it would definitely be hard for the American society to grasp since they are so used to having their summers off. Plus Although summer vacation might hinder the learning curb for some students there are tons of summer camps and other activities for kids to learn from and make themselves better citizens that kids could not otherwise do in school. Also kids need a break from the pressures of school and have time to relax. In the end I believe taking away summer vacation would not be as beneficial as keeping it.

Child discipline

It seems to me that children in today's day and age are rather spoiled, impolite, and rebellious. As I work around kids almost all day I see many different kids and their behavior not only to their superiors such as their parents or me, but to the other children they play with as well. I am not saying all kids are brats. I am merely stating the obvious increased trend of unruly children. I believe this is due to a lack of enforcement of the rules on behalf of the parent. Parents are too concerned about either their own personal lives or their child's view of them to discipline their children properly when they misbehave. Also when they do punish them for their behavior it is not strict enough so the kids do not really understand the magnitude of the situation. Saying all of that brings me to the point of how should you punish your child, and what is socially acceptable now and days as a punishment. I am fully aware that I do not personal have any children of my own so I do not know first hand what it is like to be a parent but like everyone I was a kid once too and I know what my parents did in order to make me behave; plus I have some experience since I work with kids as my job.
I have always thought that good old fashion spankings could never fail to get the point across when a child has misbehaved. Unfortunately if parents start going around spanking their kids, especially in public, they could find themselves in an unwanted situation. I have seen it happen when a parent spanks their child in public for being bad then out of nowhere some liberal stranger who thinks it is wrong to spank their child sees it and calls the police claiming the parent is abusing their kid. Yes, there might be an extremely few cases of that but the majority of the time the parent was right to do what they did and it is no ones business to interfere with the rearing of someone's child. If physical punishment works best to teach the child not to misbehave then that is what needs to happen but there are other ways which society these days has deemed more acceptable. Now parents instead of physically punishing their child parents opt to take away things the child has or likes to do such as a toy, television, or fun event. They believe that this way the child wants to be better than in order to receive the thing they want most.
Both ways are good in that they get the point across but like we all know all kids are different and respond in totally different ways. What works for one child might not work for another child, so they parent has to change things up a little. The only thing is that parents should not be monitored by strangers and called into the cops for doing something that parents have been doing since the beginning of time. People just need to accept that some people discipline their children differently and not interfere, except if it is an extreme situation.

Why have an Abortion?

In the eyes of many the biggest fear of having sex is having a baby. Unfortunately they have developed a method to abort a pregnancy and relieve the minds and lives of many who do not want their baby. The reasons for abortion are as numerous as can be thought of, but should abortion really be allowed? Everyone knows that having an abortion is ending a life, a life that could have had a chance to live but because of some parents choices are quickly squelched. I am aware that due to extenuating circumstances such as rape, many parents/women would want to have an abortion...but for all the parents who do not want to have a baby due to selfish reasons, why destroy a life?
Americans, specifically, these days put too much emphasis on what their own personal happiness, rather than the older values of responsibility and integrity. We all know in the 1950s if you had a kid you were stuck with it forever, but now if a woman gets pregnant she can just run down to the nearest clinic and have the child aborted without a second thought. Is that really what America has come too, a bunch of self-centered people who if inconvenienced just look for the easy way out instead of owning up to their problems?
I believe that abortion should not be allowed except for certain situations because people these days have been shirking out of their responsibilities as parents due to their own selfish desires. The government should regulate and go through each case individually to make sure that parents are held responsible for their actions. Also there are thousands of couples around the country who are unable to have their own child and would be very excited to have the chance to be a parent. In the end what reasons are their to end a life?

Gay Marriage

With the rise of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s gay and lesbian relationships started to come out and speak for their rights as homosexuals. Though at first there were not enough people to obtain social support for their cause and to change societies mind about homosexuals but as social norms have changed so has societies view of gay rights. As more and more homosexuals speak out for gay rights society has been forced to deal with the issues.

With the implementation of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), signed by Bill Clinton, the right to gay marriage has been given to the states but protects the rights of all the other states when it comes to gay marriage, although this is not enough for some people. Citizens who do agree argue that by allowing gay marriages we, as citizens, are skewing the original meaning of the institution of marriage which is to be with one man and one woman. By allowing gay marriage we are permitting the fundamental values of marriage to be forever altered, and if we can so easily alter the values of marriage what stops it from being altered again and again? They believe that the values that were originally meant for union between a man and a woman be protected and not be changed to include the new false idea of what marriage should be. That is why many support the implementation of a federal amendment to halt infringements upon the institution of marriage and set the record straight that marriage is between a man and a woman.

On the other hand supporters of gay marriage want the rights and privileges that are set forth in Article IV in the constitution relating to individual rights and liberties and Article X talking about the rights given to the states. They argue that they are equal citizens who fight for their country and deserve equal rights and benefits of marriage just as does everyone else. They don’t want to be discriminated because they happen to love someone of the same sex just accepted for who they are. It is their belief that an adaptation to the constitution with an amendment saying that it is illegal to marry someone of the same sex is against the constitution and against what America, the land of the free, stands for.

I believe that homosexuals have their right to love whomever they wish and no one should stop them from doing so but I personally don’t approve of them violating the sacred bond of marriage which should be held between man and woman. I would definitely vote for an amendment to the constitution which prohibits gay marriage because I believe the institution of marriage should not be changed and the benefits should be reserved for those who have upheld those God given values.
